  • Implemented Truman Doctrine to contain communism
  • Initiated Marshall Plan to stimulate economic recovery in war-torn Europe
  • Helped establish North Atlantic Treaty Organization, a military alliance to protect Western nations from Russia

He was the only president to serve after 1870 who did not earn a college degree.
