Eagles Max Baer Heart Fund and Eagles Robert W. Hansen Diabetes Fund

The members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles hold fundraising events to contribute to these charities. This is an internal procedure, although outside donations are welcome. The Grand Aerie awards all contributions received to deserving recipients as designated in the form of grants. No money is withheld for operating expenses.

Grants for state or provincial presentation level are issued in the amount of $5,000 (research only). Requirements include state sponsorship of a university or hospital research facility and contributions to this charity by the state/province and its aeries/auxiliaries in the previous year. ALL STATE CONVENTION GRANTS MUST BE SUBMITTED ONE (1) MONTH PRIOR TO CONVENTION.

Aerie/auxiliary local grants are available from both the Eagles Max Baer Heart Fund and the Eagles Robert W. Hansen Diabetes Fund, with the sole purpose of supporting education programs or purchasing equipment to serve local communities. By sponsoring a blood pressure check or blood sugar screening that must be open to the public and administered by a licensed instructor, also give the local aerie or auxiliary the eligibility to apply for a grant. Again, requirements include regular contributions to these funds and state/provincial approval.

Basic Requirements

  1. Regular contributions must be made to these funds.
  2. All grant requests must have state/provincial aerie board approval before being submitted to the Grand Aerie, Eagles Max Baer Heart Fund/Eagles Robert W. Hansen Diabetes Fund. If an earmarked donation is requesting back additional funds, the donation check and grant request must still be sent to your state board. If only amount sent in with the grant is requested back, send directly to the Grand Aerie.
  3. All grants may only be given to non-profit institutions under the Articles of Incorporation of the Eagles, and must conform to the IRS requirements. IRS tax-exempt number from the recipient organization must be written on the grant form before being submitted to the Grand Aerie.
  4. The Eagles Max Baer Heart Fund and Eagles Robert W. Hansen Diabetes Fund awards grants directly to recipients for such purposes as stated in our charity bylaws. (Such as local hospitals, universities, camps, clinic, etc.)
  5. The Fraternal Order of Eagles cannot provide grants to outside fundraising organizations, although their causes are worthy, (such as the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association).
  6. All classes and forums must be open to the public, free of charge, and should be done as a community service. (This will also help provide your aerie/auxiliary with advertising tool needed in obtaining new members by showing the community what the Eagles are all about.)
  7. Grant monies may not be used to pay for any class instructor training fees, which are sponsored by the aerie/auxiliary.
  8. Grants may not be awarded to any individual, whether they are an Eagle member or not, for medical treatment.

The CPR Grant program through the Eagles Max Baer Heart Fund is Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - a technique is designed to save lives through artificial breathing for a victim until emergency personnel arrive. This program is also held at the aerie home, and follows the same basic rules the screenings have. These $1,000 grants are presented only to local fire department or emergency medical service units. The money is to be utilized for CPR equipment that supports the schooling of emergency personnel to become certified CPR instructors, and they in turn conduct CPR classes in the community sponsored by the local aerie/auxiliary. Grant money may not be used to pay for any class instructor training fees, associated with holding a class in CPR.

The Drug Awareness Grant program covered under the Eagles Max Baer Heart Fund is a matching grant for "Drug Awareness". It is designed to offer the local aeries and auxiliaries of the Fraternal Order of Eagles the opportunity to receive a matching fund grant between the amount of $200 to $1,000 for their local community police/sheriff's department or schools. Requirements included the local aerie/auxiliary raising $100 to $500 dollars. They must sponsor a general drug awareness class in their community that is open to the public. The local police or sheriff's department will give this lecture. This gives the local adult community a better idea of what drug problems their area is having. The money is earmarked for drug awareness, made payable to the Eagles Max Baer Heart Fund and then sent in with the grant form to the state for approval. Presentation of this money goes to the local police, sheriff and local schools for the teaching of anti-drug sniffing canine units and other public drug awareness forums. Drug abuse is widespread through the country in both small towns and large cities. The goal of this program is to help local communities with drug prevention through education.
