If you’re trying to choose between live plants, flower arrangements, or memorial money --- she was leaning more towards the latter..
Unfortunately, that is MINK weekend.  Most of the State Officers will be attending the MINK.    Have already heard from Larry Rief and Kelly Davis that they will be attending the service.
Maybe, at a later date we can have our Eagle Memorial for Terry
We all would like to be there, but duty calls.

The ongoing Prostrate Surgery is still ongoing. After preparing for surgery this morning I was on the table and they were give me Anesthesia to put me under.
But because of a problem I have with my throat, they could not put down an airway down my throat.  Had  three Anesthesiologists trying.
They gave a sore throat and now it  will probably be two weeks until they try again.
Thanks for all the cards you have sent me. Hope to be able to be at Shuffleboard.

Jim will be moved to Grand Island to the VA Rehabilitation Center tomorrow, Feb.. 13th.   He is doing pretty well, except for his muscles are very, very weak.  He has been flat in bed for 45 days.   He will have intense rehab while in Grand Island.  He will be in room 311, but at this time do not know what the address is.   I will get that tomorrow and put it on line.  Keep him in your prayers, as he surely needs that.
Thanks for all your cards, concerns, phone calls, and visits.   He appreciates hearing from all of you.
From the bottom of our heart we appreciate our Eagle Family so very much,
 Papa Jim and Patty
Cards  may be sent to:

Jim Welch     Room 311NW

Grand Island, NE.  68803

1/31/2008

PSF Jim Welch is still in ICU in the VA Medical Center in OMAHA.  Room is 2405, but visitors at this time is not a good idea.   Jim is very confused, and more stimulation with others from the outside gets him more agitated.
Prayers, cards, phone calls to me, and your concern has been tremendously  appreciated.    Jim has a long fight ahead of him, and he will be in Omaha,  until we move him to Grand Island for Rehabilitation at the Veterans Hospital.
I will keep you posted on any further happenings.
I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for everything you always get done for the Welch's.

Thanks to our wonderful daughter and son-in-law, and Zachary for letting Grandma move in to their home.
Love you all,
Patty & Papa Jim

Just to touch base with everyone.  We are still in the same situation.  Papa has a chronic lung infection and some believe the Wagner’s is back, but this has not been determined for sure.  We don’t feel he can manage a biopsy at this time as he is very weak.  We are still in ICU at the VA in Omaha.  Since Papa is on a ventilator and is being kept highly sedated visitors are not recommended.  Mom is doing well, but sitting in a hospital and not knowing takes a toll.  We take each day as it comes.  His kidney is still working which is a blessing.  He is retaining lots of fluid, but they are putting in lots of fluid to try and flush his system of the infection. Your prayers, thoughts and cards are welcome and appreciated.

Cards can be sent to their home or ours since that is where Mom is staying.

Jim is still at the Omaha VA Hospital, Room 6304, 4101 Woolworth Ave. Omaha NE.  68105

His kidney started working on his birthday yesterday, 1-9-08.  His kidney level is still quite high, but the kidney is producing urine.

His ticker is still in A-FIB (irregular beat and high) but they are sure medicine will stabilize the heart.

Papa Jim, appreciates all the prayers, calls and concerns.  He again has been blessed and we will never know why and how the good Lord works, but again we find us back in his hands.

I have come home tonight, because I have some things that need done, along with state board meeting on Saturday.  Back to Omaha after that and hopefully he will be thinking about coming home to 936 East 4th.

Again, I thank you all for your prayers, calls, concerns and cards.  You are a big part of our family.

Love as always,

Papa Jim and Patty Welch

Fran Rushlau

Here I am once again.  I was able to bring mother home on Tuesday afternoon. She is getting around at home, eating what she can tolerate, which is actually much better than when she was in the hospital.
All of the family came into Omaha Tuesday afternoon, so she was able to be at home and enjoy their company.  Both of my sisters are staying at her house with her, so she is currently in good hands, and I am now able to get just a few things done at home.
Peggy leaves on Sunday and Jeanne will stay until Tuesday.  My biggest concern right now is just making sure that she doesn't try to do too much and still gets some rest.  But, I am pretty good at getting my way, even with them.  I am after all the BIG SISTER, and very much in charge.
Unfortunately, the doctor has told mom that he does not want her to travel at this time, so our plans to visit Spokane are off.  I will stay here and look after her needs for the time being.  Sorry to say, we will now not be able to compete, but her health is certainly more important at this juncture in our lives.  I will miss seeing all of our friends, and hope that you all have a wonderful time.
Hondo has promised to dedicate a special song to me at the MINK hospitality room, so hope that you all attend and tip one for me.  OOH, maybe just one more.

Love to all, and see you somewhere along the way.

Just wanted to let everyone know that mother had another attack late last  Tuesday night.  I took her to the emergency room in the wee hours, and she was admitted to Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.  On Friday morning, they did finally remove her gall bladder.  While in recovery, she had erratic heart rhythm, so  they put her in Intensive Care to monitor her heart, and to give meds to try to control it and get it back into a normal range.

She was moved into a regular room yesterday (Sunday), and hopefully will go home tomorrow if all stays on track.  She is getting up and around a bit, and taking some nourishment, if you can call hospital food that.  She is not real happy to be here since all of my siblings are schedule into Omaha tomorrow for a family reunion for the fourth of July.  Hoping to get her out of here and back in to her home surroundings tomorrow.

Please keep us both in your prayers since this has been an extremely stressful time for me.

Cards can be sent to her at home:

Sunday afternoon June 10th, after state convention, Fran had an episode that resulted in her being taken to the hospital with suspected heart problems.  After two days of tests and a complete cardiac workup, it was determined that her heart is just fine, but that she has a collection of lovely gallstones.  She is now at home, comfortable and raring to go, but will be scheduling procedures to take care of her gall bladder problem as soon as possible.

Cards and calls would be welcome and appreciated.  Her address and phone number is

On June 16th, in Superior we will be having a medical benefit auction and hamburger feed for Craten McKee. The Superior Elks Lodge and the Eagles are combining forces to make this happen as he's been an officer in both places and is recently a State officer at the Elks, so it has been decided to be held at the Elks. The Eagles Auxiliary will be donating salads and desserts.

Supper will be at 5:00 with the auction starting at 7:00

Craten recently underwent two back surgeries in Omaha to hopefully correct his spinal stenosis and now other difficulties that have followed this surgery. He's got a tough road ahead of him.
