15 March A Message From the Grand Board of Trustees & GWP Ron Malz March 15, 2020 By The Fraternal Order of Eagles General 0 Brothers & Sisters, The Fraternal Order of Eagles Grand Aerie continues to monitor the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation across the United States and Canada and we hope that all of our members are taking the necessary precautions to remain safe as the issue continues to evolve. Many of you have asked us questions regarding opening your Aerie homes to members, meetings, etc., upcoming State/Provincial Conventions and our International Convention this summer in Spokane. Regarding local business, we’re asking all of our Aeries to keep a watchful eye on the recommendations of your local government officials and to fully comply with any orders they may issue within your States/Provinces and local communities. At this time, all State/Provincial Conventions are still scheduled to take place, however these events should remain in compliance with any standing orders issued by your State/Provincial governments, most especially any orders regarding mass gatherings. In the event of any cancellations, we will make sure everyone is made aware as soon as possible. As for the International Convention in Spokane this July, we still expect to see you all in Washington for another great week of fun, friendship and fraternalism. We will continue to monitor the situation in the coming months and provide any necessary updates as the event approaches. Ultimately, the decision regarding the Convention lies in the hands of the state of Washington and the host venues for this year’s Convention. We will continue to monitor the situation daily and provide any relevant updates regarding any major Eagles events as they become available on foe.com and on the Grand Aerie’s official Facebook page. Once again, we ask you all to exercise proper discretion and take the necessary precautions to keep yourselves, your families and your fellow Brothers & Sisters safe. Fraternally, The Fraternal Order of Eagles Grand Board of Trustees Carl Burnett, Chairman, Grand Board of Trustees Ron Malz, Grand Worthy President Related Articles Message from Grand Worthy President Ron Malz Brothers & Sisters, Over the last few weeks, the problems faced by the Fraternal Order of Eagles due to the coronavirus have been unprecedented. We entered March strongly on pace for our second consecutive year of Net Gain, then – suddenly – things came to a screeching halt. Our Aeries closed, we were unable to recruit and initiate new members and several of the annual events we all look forward to were unable to take place. A Message From The Grand Presidents Brothers & Sisters, Due to the coronavirus situation and that fact that many state governments have forced the closure of Aeries, we will be suspending all Grand Aerie travel for the time being, including the Grand Worthy President and Grand Madam President’s travels, and will reassess future travel arrangements on April 1, 2020. The Grand Worthy President’s Office will be in touch with those handling previously scheduled visitations and will be keeping future visitation sites informed as this situation evolves. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year from your Grand Presidents! Brothers and Sisters, We’ve almost made it through 2020 and all the chaos this unexpected year has brought us. While the struggles we have faced this year are different than any we have experienced before, we wanted to thank all of our amazing Eagles members for their perseverance, positivity, and adaptability during this time. Adjusting to this year has been an exercise in problem solving. As government orders forced the shutdown of many of our Aeries & Auxiliaries, you all persevered, finding new ways to raise funds and handle business despite the limitations placed upon us. We were able to raise a grand total of $3,665,516 for the F.O.E. Charity Foundation and its various funds. Past Grand Worthy President Ron Malz raised $83,607.59 for his charity, Confidence Learning Center, while Past Grand Madam President Gloria Williams raised $46,734.96 for the Special Olympics, and an additional $37,986.50 for her other project, the F.O.E. Diabetes Research Center. As your Grand Presidents, we’ve spent our year raising money for the DRC Bridge to the Cure, Camp Civitan, and the Penticton Regional Hospital, and can’t wait to update you on how much we raised during the 2021 Convention in Phoenix, AZ! Iowa Leadership welcome the Fraternal Order of Eagles Board of Trustees On Monday, August 15, the University of Iowa Foundation (UIF) welcomed the Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE) Board of Directors to the University of Iowa for their annual visit to the FOEDRC. A Special Message from DRC Director Dr. E. Dale Abel Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, After 8.5 years as Director of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center (FOEDRC), I write to share with you that I will be relocating from Iowa to California. In January, I will begin a new journey as Chair of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and executive medical director of the UCLA Health System’s Department of Medicine. I will continue to conduct diabetes research there but will pass over the reins of leading the FOEDRC to trusted colleagues who have served by my side throughout my tenure as your director. These are individuals that you have met and know and whom I am confident will continue to fulfill your dream of curing diabetes. In the meantime, I will remain a senior advisor to the new leaders of the FOEDRC and in this way continue to fulfill my commitment to your mission. GWP Burnett Fills Grand Aerie Officer Vacancy Due to the unfortunate passing of Grand Trustee John Noldan, a vacancy was left in the Grand Aerie officer positions.
