Each year, during the month of October, Chairperson Lynn Haus and her committee, with the help of the Auxiliary, come together to raise funds for people who cannot afford mammograms. This year, they broke their record and surpassed their set goal. Blairsville, Pennsylvania - November 2017 Blairsville Eagle Riders #1488 were hard at work during the riding season, hosting a trio of benefit runs and making numerous community donations raising $12,253. In terms of total donations from the Eagle Riders, Aerie and Auxiliary, Blairsville is near eclipsing $20,000 total in 2017. South Central Regional - November 2017 During the annual South Central Regional Conference this fall, Regional Charity Directors presented checks for the money raised by them as directors including: $3,720 for the FOE Diabetes Research Center $1,414 for the Vicki Welch Ovarian Cancer Fund $150 for the Art Ehrmann Cancer Fund $370 for the D.D. Dunlap Kidney Fund $510 for the GMP’s Charity, Tri-State Honor Flight $150 for the Golden Eagle, Alzheimer’s & Parkinson’s Funds $140 for the Jimmy Durante Children’s Fund $370 for the Lew Reed Spinal Cord Injury Fund $201 for the Max Baer Heart Fund $366 for the Memorial Foundation $648 for the Robert Hansen Diabetes Fund The Region also presented grants for $5,000 from the Grand Aerie and the Kansas Past State Presidents. New Port Richey, Florida - January 2017 On Oct. 1, the Ladies’ Auxiliary #3153 held an Italian event for Alzheimer’s, presenting a grant check for $2,000 to Dan Minor of the Alzheimer’s South Florida Foundation. Spring Hill, Florida - March 2017 On March 10, Spring Hill #4208 Eagle Riders members Diane Irwin, Barbara Cyr and Annie Krysheski presented a check for $2,000 from the 3rd Annual Terry Irwin Run held Jan. 21, to the Fisher House, associated with the James A. Haley Hospital in Tampa. The following day, Aerie and Auxiliary members joined the more than 1,000 people who took part in the Hunger Walk. Spring Hill members walked and raised $417 dollars for the walk, which generated more than $75,000 total to help fight hunger in Pasco County by providing Pack-A-Sack food for kids and hot meals from Metropolitan Ministries. Colonial Beach, Virginia - April 2017 Colonial Beach Eagles #4315 made a generous donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital last month. As a result of months of planning by benefit committee chairman, Bill Hall, co-chair Rebecca Kinson, and committee members Debbie Bennett, Donna Barnette, Patricia Cochran, Debra Garcia, Carrie Keister, Ginger Roth, Sharon Schellin, and Linda Watts, the F.O.E. was able to donate $12,232 to this worthy cause. Committee members ran several events to raise funds, including a brown bag auction, buffets during football games, and a prime rib dinner.
