St. Marys, Georgia - October 2017

Aerie and Auxiliary members of Saint Marys #4379 came together to provide the community Emergency Management Workers with a hot BBQ meal on the day after the hurricane hit, which caused widespread flooding, destruction and power outages lasting multiple days. It was anticipated that the town would be without electricity following the hurricane and there would be a need to feed EMS workers during the cleanup. Aerie members were proactive, planning the meal, which consisted of pork butts, pork tenderloins, green beans, baked beans, bread and bottled water prior to the storm. Early in the morning on the day of the BBQ, the Aerie came together, spending 12 hours preparing, cooking and serving the meals to more than 150 hungry EMS workers. Some of the police, firefighters and public works personnel hadn’t been home or had a hot meal in three days. The Saint Marys Eagles were honored to help assist these tireless workers in their time of need.
