Colorado - October 2018 Colorado State JPW George Duran presented an $11,567.34 check to the Colorado Blood Cancer Institute for their Rocky Mountain Blood Fund. RMBF provides grants to blood cancer patients to help ease the financial burden that patients and families experience during the treatment for the devastating effects of blood cancers. Duran is a survivor and the Colorado State Aerie is giving back to this lifesaving organization as a part of the State Presidents Special Project. Alameda, California - October 2018 Alameda Aerie #1076 held a fundraiser for Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (FAAS) and was able to present them with a check for $814. Additionally on August 25, #1076 donated $1,170 to Pets for Vets. Vincennes, Indiana - October 2018 Vincennes Auxiliary #384’s Vice President Terri Bodine presented a $1,000 Grant to Good Samaritan Hospital’s Think Pink initiative in honor of Breast Cancer awareness. Boonville, Missouri - October 2018 Past Madam State President and Past Madam South Central Regional President Barb Cornine was recently featured in HERHEALTH magazine for her work with Ovarian Cancer and the Vicki Welsh Foundation. Barb is a 13-year ovarian cancer survivor and as a part of her special charity, the state raised over $30,000 and donated it to the Vicki Welsh fund. While the fund brings awareness to Ovarian Cancer, much of the money raised was donated to the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS for Ovarian Cancer research. Vermillion, South Dakota - October 2018 Inclement weather threatened the cancellation of The University of South Dakota’s homecoming festivities and Sunshine Aerie and Auxiliary #2421 stepped to provide the venue so the party could go on.
