11 May Elyria, Ohio - April 2018 May 11, 2018 By The Fraternal Order of Eagles Ohio 0 Elyria Eagle Riders Aerie #431 held a spaghetti dinner and raffle fundraiser for Rayshawn and Samantha Camel after they lost everything in a house fire around Christmas. During the benefit, $1,500 was raised, and the Eagle Riders and Eagle Club raised $600 out of that total. The Camels are grateful for the community’s help, especially after the house damage ended up being estimated at $40,000 and is currently uninhabitable. The flags are a part of the Forgotten Soldiers project, which is designed to bring attention to this tragedy by moving the display every so often to a different location. Foley, Alabama - April 2018 Coastal Aerie #4549 celebrated its grand opening and raised $600 during the event. Federal Heights, Colorado - April 2018 Aerie #4019 held a breakfast fundraiser to support Shield 616 and the Federal Heights Police Department, where they raised $1,200. Recently, three police officers were shot and killed in the line of duty. The Aerie was saddened by the tragic officer deaths and wanted to do something to help the men and women who risk their lives daily. The cause, Shield 616 “Support the Shield” helps better equip the men and women in the local police department safe with the best gear possible to keep them safe. Through the donated funds, Shield 616 will purchase and distribute rifle-ready protection designed for quick deployment to departments across Colorado. Freeland, Washington - April 2018 Whidbey Island Eagles Aerie #3418 presented checks totaling $7500.00 to 10 different local charities that serve South Whidbey Island. Gig Harbor, Washington - April 2018 Gig Harbor Aerie #2809 celebrated its 70 anniversary where they honored fellow member Eric Asplund. Asplund, 93, has served at his aerie since its installation and is the only living charter member. Wanting children to feel safe in the hospital during Christmas, he decided to start a toy drive. In 2016 Darner ended up distributing 259 toys out of his 50 toy goal. Wanting to continue the tradition, Darner held the toy drive again this year and Port Orchard Aerie #2338 donated 1,500 toys for the cause. The 1,500 toys were part of a large donation the Eagles received four years ago that were not yet been distributed.
