The following criteria were used to determine the first recipient: 1. Student need not be one of 4.0 grade average but one who applies himself/ herself diligently at all times. 2. In the interest of our motto, “ people helping people”, the student need be one who never disrupts the classroom, who never engages in bullying practices but may even be one who champions the bullied. A student who volunteers should be a serious candidate. 3. A student who’s attendance is sterling with no unexcused absences. 4. A student who never shows disrespect in any way to our country, I.E. The National Anthem, our flag, our military , first responders and/or law enforcement officials. 5. A student who never shows disrespect toward his/ her teachers. 6. All things being equal, a student coming from a less than affluent family who may genuinely need financial help to move to the next level of education. New Port Richey, Florida - January 2017 On Oct. 1, the Ladies’ Auxiliary #3153 held an Italian event for Alzheimer’s, presenting a grant check for $2,000 to Dan Minor of the Alzheimer’s South Florida Foundation. Spring Hill, Florida - March 2017 On March 10, Spring Hill #4208 Eagle Riders members Diane Irwin, Barbara Cyr and Annie Krysheski presented a check for $2,000 from the 3rd Annual Terry Irwin Run held Jan. 21, to the Fisher House, associated with the James A. Haley Hospital in Tampa. The following day, Aerie and Auxiliary members joined the more than 1,000 people who took part in the Hunger Walk. Spring Hill members walked and raised $417 dollars for the walk, which generated more than $75,000 total to help fight hunger in Pasco County by providing Pack-A-Sack food for kids and hot meals from Metropolitan Ministries. Orlando, Florida - April 2017 Orlando Aerie & Auxiliary #3496 held a fundraiser for the Russell Home for Atypical Children, collecting $1,350 for the cause. Russell Home was the first nonprofit in the country for brain-damaged children. The home consists of a nursery, dormitory wing, playrooms, living room areas, kitchen and large laundry room. The nursery, done up in bright colors with many posters and stuffed animals, is cheerful for the children. In the home is an occupational license from Nov. 13, 1951, when the home opened. Since then, it has opened its doors to hundreds of youngsters. Pictured are Geoff and Doris Robe presented the check to Administrator Betty Turner. Edgewater, Florida - May 2017 New Smyrna-Edgewater Eagles #4242 recently presented three checks to Florida Hospital New Smyrna Beach. $2,000 was donated to cardiac care, $1,000 to breast cancer and $1,000 to diabetes programs. Illinois - September 2017 Blue Island Auxiliary #1332 member Janice Soria was inducted into the Illinois State Auxiliary Hall of Fame during the State Convention on June 13. Janice routinely goes above and beyond to serve the Illinois State Eagles and the sisters of Illinois were proud to bestow this prestigious honor upon her for her efforts.
