Bacliff, Texas - January 2018 The Auxiliary of Mainland #3199, with the help of the Aerie and Katie’s Bar, were able to donate 40 new bicycles to local children for Christmas. With so many families still recovering from the destruction of Hurricane Harvey, the Eagles’ efforts have made a significant difference in the lives of area youngsters. Tarentum, Pennsylvania - January 2018 During a regular meeting in February 2017, Tarentum Auxiliary #699 decided to take on the biggest charitable fundraiser in its history. As a team, they decided to raise the funds for the Citizens Hose Fire and EMS Company, located in Natrona Heights, Pa., to build a fire safety training room for them and surrounding companies to train in. The room would consist of changing mazes, drop flooring, entrapment areas, breakaway doors, narrow crawl spaces, 40 lb. child-like dummies and more. While in use, the room would become dark and at times could be filled with a special type of harmless smoke to recreate actual fire scenarios. Firefighters would then enter, expected to extinguish the fire and save anyone trapped in the structure, including themselves. The room costs a total of $10,000. Hammond, Indiana - January 2018 Hessville Eagles #3117 has been preparing Christmas baskets for the last 36 years. Every year, they have been able to make a basket for every family name turned in by their members. The names submitted are friends, family or neighbors of current members. This year, 40 family names were submitted. Members donated time and money to prepare the 40 baskets, which were provided to the families for the holidays. Youngstown, Ohio - January 2018 On Dec. 20, the Ladies’ Auxiliary of Youngstown #213 presented a $1,000 check to the Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Care Center to help assist those without health insurance in the area. The Auxiliary held a turkey dinner, 50/50 raffle and sold pink ribbons in October to raise funds for the Center. Vincennes, Indiana - January 2018 The Junior Order of Eagles of Vincennes #384 hosted a holiday dinner on Dec. 17, for all members of the Aerie and Auxiliary, collecting donations for the local Pet Port animal shelter.
