From the February 2017 People Helping People Newsletter Related Articles Sleepy Hollow, New York - February 2017 Members of Sleepy Hollow Eagles #1042 held a pot luck dinner in November to raise money for the chosen organization of the event chairperson. Last year’s chairperson, Rose Kollar, is the co-founder of Support Connection – an area nonprofit started to provide free support services for breast and ovarian cancer patients. The pot luck raised $2,115 for the cause thanks to the large number of raffle tickets purchase by both men and women at the Eagles. Marceline, Missouri - January 2017 Marceline Eagles #726 raffled off the new Henry Golden Boy Fraternal Order of Eagles Commemorative Rifle to raise money for the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Fund in memory of PWP Steve Weese, who chaired the Diabetes Fund for many years and passed away in 2016 from complications due to diabetes. The raffle raised $700 with Johnny Weikert of Gettysburg, Pa., selected as the winner. Accepting on his behalf was Bob Barrows of Linneus, Mo. Holding the gun is raffle chairman Mark Cleveland, PWP and Missouri PSP. Jefferson City, Missouri - March 2017 Grand Worthy President Jerry L. Sullivan recently visited Jefferson City, Mo., Eagles #2693. Jerry received a $200 donation to his charity, Lupus research, from the Aerie and a check for $100 from the Auxiliary. Marceline, Missouri - March 2017 During his time in Missouri, Grand Worthy President Jerry L. Sullivan stopped into Marceline Eagles #726 to visit with Aerie and Auxiliary members. The group there presented Jerry with a check for $500 to put towards his charity, Lupus research. Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas - February 2017 For the last 20 years, Horseshoe Bend #3431 has given presents to area children through its annual Christmas event. Last year, 51 boys and 46 girls received ages 2-12 received presents. Each child received a gift and an entry into a drawing for one of 20 bicycles. Member Betty Swanson has chaired the event for the last three years and spends her time calling area businesses for donations. This year, $2,800 in gifts were distributed. Hale, Michigan - February 2017 Hale Eagles #4217’s Ladies’ Auxiliary has donated more than $19,000 to the Convenant Breast Health Center over the past five years to support the CARE Fund, which provides free screening mammography and any necessary follow-up care for uninsured or underinsured individuals.
