Sullivan helped present a $5,000 grant to Visually Impaired Preschool Services (VIPS). Sullivan is pictured presenting the grant to VIPS Director of Development Heather Benson. In front is Isiah Scroggins, grandson of Kentucky State President-Elect Jim Bosworth. Scroggins attends VIPS. While in town, Sullivan also joined the Derby City Aerie’s Louisville Slugger Club and was awarded with his own personalized bat. From the February 2017 People Helping People Newsletter Related Articles Louisville, Kentucky - May 2017 On March 29, Louisville lost a dedicated police officer when Officer Nick Rodman died in an accident during a high-speed chase. Rodman was more than an officer, always stepping up to help the community. He left behind a two-year-old son and a one-month-old daughter. Derby City Eagles #2173 wanted to share their appreciation for Officer Rodman’s service by collecting diapers for his daughter to help the family. On April 25, the diapers were delivered to Officer Rodman’s division. Sleepy Hollow, New York - February 2017 Members of Sleepy Hollow Eagles #1042 held a pot luck dinner in November to raise money for the chosen organization of the event chairperson. Last year’s chairperson, Rose Kollar, is the co-founder of Support Connection – an area nonprofit started to provide free support services for breast and ovarian cancer patients. The pot luck raised $2,115 for the cause thanks to the large number of raffle tickets purchase by both men and women at the Eagles. Bellevue, Kentucky - October 2017 Bluegrass Eagles #964 has made the decision to step up and held support their local schools and children with much needed donations. The membership has committed to several thousand dollars worth of aid to two local schools for multiple projects over the next 5 years. Their first donation was recently made for $2,000. Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas - February 2017 For the last 20 years, Horseshoe Bend #3431 has given presents to area children through its annual Christmas event. Last year, 51 boys and 46 girls received ages 2-12 received presents. Each child received a gift and an entry into a drawing for one of 20 bicycles. Member Betty Swanson has chaired the event for the last three years and spends her time calling area businesses for donations. This year, $2,800 in gifts were distributed. Hale, Michigan - February 2017 Hale Eagles #4217’s Ladies’ Auxiliary has donated more than $19,000 to the Convenant Breast Health Center over the past five years to support the CARE Fund, which provides free screening mammography and any necessary follow-up care for uninsured or underinsured individuals. Since 2010, the CARE Fund has provided screenings for more than 450 people. Middletown, New York - February 2017 Middletown recently donated a check for $350 across various funds within the Grand Aerie Charity Foundation. They also held a backpack drive for the local homeless shelter in which 53 backpacks full of necessary school supplies were donated for children in grades K-12.
