4 September Owatonna, Minnesota - May 2019 September 4, 2019 By The Fraternal Order of Eagles Minnesota 0 The Owatonna Eagles #1791 awarded $1,000 each to the four 2019 Don Tuerk Memorial Scholarship winners: Robert Kniefel, majoring in Law Enforcement, Benjamin Witikko, majoring in Law Enforcement, Julia Hansen, majoring in Law Enforcement, and Samantha Hovden-Marlin, majoring in Alcohol & Drug Counseling. The funding for these awards is from the Don Tuerk Endowment fund. Don Tuerk was a community-minded native, long-time Eagles member, and Owatonna fireman. Farmington, Minnesota - June 2019 Farmington Eagles #4031 donated $5,000 to support Minnesota’s Special Olympics by purchasing a Gold Sponsorship for the Northland 300. The Northland 300 is a 300 mile, three day, charity snowmobile ride made up of volunteer participants who raise funds to support Special Olympics Minnesota. This year they raised a total of $185,641. New Brighton, Minnesota - July 2019 Minnesota State Aerie President Mike Hanson’s charity for his year was the Make A Wish Foundation of Minnesota. He had a goal of $20,000, but he was able to raise a total of $28,422.93. The Grand Aerie gave a grant of $5,000 and the New Brighton Eagles made a gambling donation of $8,000, but overall the balance was raised by the members of New Brighton Eagles #3718. Hanson raised the money by cooking burgers, hosting steak fry’s, live auctions, grab bags, and contributed personal donations during his year as State President. The average wish is about $6,500, so this will help to make more than a few wishes come true. Albert Lea, Minnesota - January 2019 The Albert Lea Eagles Club #2258 raised $6500 and a box full of toys for Toys for Tots. Money was raised from raffle sales of Meat Packs on Thursday nights and on Sunday Viking Games. A special thanks to Lois, Julie and Carol for all their time and effort in raising the funds for Toys for Tots. Also Darron Becker who passed away this year in September. Anchorage, Alaska - May 2019 • #4207 gave a check for $2,271 and a box of winter clothing to the Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission. The AGRM’s motto is “A meal, a bed, a soul well fed,” and they plan on using the money for helping those in need. • Marsha Lawton, Auxiliary Treasurer for Aerie #4207, presented a $1,000 check to the Anchorage Police and Fire Chaplains group. • Anchorage Aerie and Auxiliary #4207 donated $2,000 to Pamela Meadors, Executive Director of Alaska SPCA, and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Okahumpka, Florida - September 2019 During the year of 2019, Lake County Aerie and Auxiliary #4273 so far have donated a collective $61,000 to six local nonprofit charities; the Leesburg Food Bank, Camp Boggy Creek, Haven of Lake and Sumter Counties, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, New Vision for Independence, and Libby’s Legacy Breast Cancer Foundation.
