15 November Valdez, Alaska - October 2019 November 15, 2019 By The Fraternal Order of Eagles Alaska 0 Valdez Ladies Auxiliary 1971 Madam President Sheila Jordan, Trustee Chair Alicia Brown and Madam Secretary Carole Derifield presented the Herman Hutchins Elementary School Principal Jayson Webber, teachers and staff, $1,000 for each grade K through 5th, and gave the VCS Pre-school $500. The Auxiliary also presented the Gilson Middle School Principal Rod Morrison $1,000 each for grades 6th through 8th for a total of $9,500 donated to be used for scholarships. The AGRM’s motto is “A meal, a bed, a soul well fed,” and they plan on using the money for helping those in need. • Marsha Lawton, Auxiliary Treasurer for Aerie #4207, presented a $1,000 check to the Anchorage Police and Fire Chaplains group. • Anchorage Aerie and Auxiliary #4207 donated $2,000 to Pamela Meadors, Executive Director of Alaska SPCA, and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Vermillion, South Dakota - October 2019 Sunshine Aerie #2421 held a spaghetti dinner and donated the total proceeds of $4,500 to the University of South Dakota Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders. Following dinner, a check presentation was made by Dakota State Chaplain Kent Osborne to Dr. Mandy Williams as a grant from the Eagles' Jimmy Durante Children's Fund to support the identification and treatment of children born with cleft palate. A signature cocktail was served with 50/50 raffles held as well. Kasilof, Alaska - April 2019 Every year the Kasilof Aerie #4317 supports the Way-Out-Women (WOW) cancer fund. They were able to raise $4,000 of combined donations through art, crafts, and more for a silent auction, and organized a fundraising dinner. The WOW cancer run is a yearly event where women snow-machine enthusiasts wear costumes and complete a 50-mile ride through the Caribou Hills. All the money directly benefits cancer patients in the local community. Anchorage, Alaska - August 2019 Anchorage Auxiliary #4207 provided Anchorage Search Team with a check for $2,000. They discovered this group (AST) when their Aerie brother Herb Spencer, who suffers from Dementia, went for a daily walk but did not return home. They searched the Anchorage area tirelessly, contacting individuals along trails, placing flyers around town. Herb was found 5 days later; cold, wet and tired. When #4207’s Auxiliary Sister Marsha Lawton inquired with AST as to what the Auxiliary could do for them, their only request was to pay their annual insurance premium. The Anchorage Search Team is a volunteer search and rescue team located in Anchorage, Alaska. The team is committed to year round searches, day or night, for all citizens in Anchorage and statewide. All equipment, training/certifications expenses and costs are solely paid by dedicated team members and donations (no government funding is provided). Gray, Maine - October 2019 New Gloucester Eagles #4131 held their annual Camping for A Cause Camporee weekend and was able to raise $2,436 for STRIVE, which is an organization that is committed to being part of the community and assisting young teens, tweens and adults with emotional and intellectual disabilities to be able to live with dignity and respect as active members of society. Brisbane, California - October 2019 Brisbane Eagles #3255’s co-chairs Rocky Guillory, DeeDee Berrocal, and volunteers raised $4,332 for the Cancer Fund.
