22 September Washington - Sept. 2017 September 22, 2017 By The Fraternal Order of Eagles Washington 0 Many years ago, Dr. Isaac Pope started a friendship with the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Through his many discussions with Eagles, the dream of Pope’ Kid’s Place came to life. The Eagles and Dr. Pope wanted to establish a new Transition/Respite Center for youth. Presidents Ivan Wilson and Charlene Butterfield dedicated their year as State Presidents (2011-12) to the cause and helped raise more than $104,000 for the project. The money was invested with additional donations included as the years progressed. In Sept. 2016, ground was broken on the construction of the center. 11 months later, the facility was officially dedicated to the Fraternal Order of Eagles and named Eagles House. In attendance for the ceremony were Wilson and Butterfield, as well as Eagles Grand Worthy President Tom McGrath. From the September 2017 edition of People Helping People Related Articles Cle Elum, Washington - Sept. 2017 Harry Nelson, a member of the popular local band The Willies, was injured in a motorcycle accident, undergoing long-term therapy and facing extensive medical bills. Cle Elum Eagles #649 answered the call to help, holding a HarryStock event on June 3 to help raise funds to offset Nelson’s bills. The street in front of the club was closed down and featured a beer garden, bands and raffles all to help Harry. The event raised more than $30,000 to help Harry in his recovery. Stevenson, Washington - January 2017 Stevenson Eagles #1744 donated $6,000 to their county school’s music program. Snohomish, Washington - January 2017 Snohomish Eagle Riders #195 held a Poker Run in the fall, raising $500 to donate to the Seattle Stand Down For Veterans, to provide free dental service for veterans. They also donated $500 to Sarvey Wildlife Care Center in Arlington, Washington. Cle Elum, Washington - April 2017 Cle Elum Eagles #649 held their annual Sweetheart Ball Feb. 11, raising a total of $2,476 to donate to the Max Baer Heart Fund. The Auxiliary received a $500 from the Swedish Medical Center in Seattle for the Fund. Holding the check are Co-Chairman Carol Crossen, Stephanie Vogtzinn of Swedish Medical Center and Co-Chair Viva Rogers, the 2017 Sweetheart Queen honored for her outstanding volunteerism. Illinois - September 2017 Blue Island Auxiliary #1332 member Janice Soria was inducted into the Illinois State Auxiliary Hall of Fame during the State Convention on June 13. Janice routinely goes above and beyond to serve the Illinois State Eagles and the sisters of Illinois were proud to bestow this prestigious honor upon her for her efforts. Evansville, Indiana - Sept. 2017 River City #4023 recently installed its new Auxiliary officers.
